Ubisoft's latest cop / racing game in the Driver series seems to have been plagued by delayed release dates and rumours, but it's still holding a place in the top 100 best selling PC racing games in online retailer lists, despite a release date that may be pushing the end of 2011 or even entering 2012. (Tesco Entertainment's site have published the release date as 7th October this year - PC-owning fans of the series will be hoping that they are right!) With updated game mechanics, a new storyline and new abilities for your character, tough as nails undercover cop John Tanner, it looks like it will be a game worth waiting for.
Driver: San Fransisco will be available in two flavours - the standard edition and a "Collector's Edition". The latter will include such wonders as an 18cm-long replica of Tanner's Dodge Challenger, a map of San Fransisco and 3 exclusive in-game bonuses, along with more features that are yet to be announced. That map could even come in handy in real-life, I guess!
One feature that sounds fun is the "Multiplayer Mayhem" modes/ This features nine different, frantic and addictive online modes, where the SHIFT feature allows players to be anywhere at any time. Ram, tail and overtake your friends in offline split-screen or online modes... Presumably you can choose to swap cars at the crucial moment when things are going wrong? We shall see... whenever it is that Driver: San Fransisco actually gets released.
